I am a parent, artist, student, roller skater, cyclist, and bookworm who was finishing prerequisites for nursing school and pedicabbing events in Downtown San Jose at the start of the pandemic. In the past I’ve been a video rental wizard, art school drop-out, barista, and IT technician.
Why the masks?
When I needed masks at the start of the pandemic, I wasn’t finding masks that were comfortable and provided good coverage. As someone who has sensory-processing disorder, I needed soft elastic ear loops and a mask that wouldn’t constantly get sucked into my mouth. Additionally, having just finished Microbiology I was concerned about the inadequacy of many masks I was seeing for sale. I got to trying out and altering different patterns, which lead me to the mask you see on my site.
At first I was only making them for myself and my family, and then my friends too. Everyone loved them so much that they encouraged me to move towards selling them.
As the pandemic continues my sewing has become main means of supporting myself and my daughter as my former job remains impacted by the shutdowns. It also allows me to be at home with my daughter as distance learning continues.
